What is a Podiatrist?
A podiatrist is an expert in foot and lower limb care. Podiatrists help people in the care of their lower limbs including the foot and ankle and may also be involved in supporting older people to reduce their risk of falling.
Podiatrists may also: Diagnose foot problems like skin and nail diseases, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage), peripheral vascular disease (poor blood cirulation), foot deformity such as bunions, high or low arch feet, tumours such a Morton’s neuroma, and diabetic foot ulceration. Podiatrists also treat painful foot conditions such as corns, excessive plantar callus (hard skin), plantar fasciitis, heel pain and a range of foot and ankle injuries such as ligament sprain and muskuloskeletal strain.

We accept referrals from your GP as well as private patients. Generally, podiatry services are subsidised by Medicare if you have an active chronic disease affecting your feet. Some health funds cover podiatry services and orthoses. If you have a chronic medical condition including but not limited to diabetes, vascular disease, neurological disease or arthritis you may be eligible to access podiatry services under a Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP). In order to access the scheme a general practitioner referral is required.
